You know how it is with
an April day.” -Robert Frost

Rare Octopus With Completely Transparent Head Caught by Blackwater Photographer, Taipei-based photographer Wu Yung-sen. On a recent blackwater dive—unable to see the bottom and surrounded by impenetrable space—he chanced upon a rare larval Wunderpus octopus. A stunning image captures the encounter; it shows the delicate and transparent baby octopus encasing its own brilliantly red brain, a sight few ever witness in the wild.

A shell,
much like a human heart,
will change over time,
growing in size
and even its capacity
to hold different inhabitants.
And sometimes
even the whole ones,
and the beautiful ones,
and the perfectly useful ones,
find themselves
empty and discarded.
And so,
I throw them back into the waters,
always,
with a wish and a prayer,
almost an incantation, really,
because of the number of times
I’ve done this ritual from the shoreline,
in the hopes that some being
will one day see it for what it is,
know just how to get inside,
and by doing so,
will make this empty vessel
a home again.

It’s Friday and as usual it’s been a crappy week. Every week blends into another with bad news on all fronts. The pandemic, the corrupt administration in the White House and Trump doing his damndest to destroy this country before he’s kicked out of office.
I try my best to stay positive, though admittedly it’s hard at times and I’m not always successful. Those are the days that tears flow freely. But this Friday I refuse to give into feelings of despair. I urge everyone to find something that makes you laugh everyday, even if it’s watching funny videos on TicToc. Yes, it makes me laugh 😂.
I came across this picture by Elena Shumilova, the well known photographer that lives in a small Russian village. It made me smile and appreciate the innocence and beauty that still exists. Hope it makes you smile too.

Your trivia for today.
Crooked Forest, Poland: This bizarre pine forest in Poland consists of 400 trees, all mysteriously bent at the base, forming curved trunks that eventually turn upright. One theory as to their shape is that they were trapped under a heavy layer of snow early in their growth. Another is that local foresters attempted to curve the trees in order to use the bent wood to make furniture.
