Epic Fail! 50 minutes into Prime Day and the website is still down. Jeff Bezos must be about to explode.

Amazon, I would love to shop all deals and spend my money but can’t get past this!

We all know how Trump hates Amazon, maybe he asked his buddy Vlad to do a little hacking. Wouldn’t surprise me.

I don’t know how many of you also use Twitter but if you do and want to follow a funny, funny Emergency Room Doctor I’ve got one for you. For non medical people you might not understand all the lingo or drug names but you’ll be able to get the gist of it. Her tweets make me laugh every time I read them.

In this Jan. 20, 2013 photo provided by the Chicago Zoological Society, Thani, left, a 3-year-old white-cheeked gibbon recently met Kekasih, a 4-year-old orangutan, while exploring the Tropic World Asia exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, Ill. Guests may occasionally see Thani jump from the high trees in the indoor habitat to the large peninsula to visit his new friend. (AP Photo/Chicago Zoological Society, Jim Schulz)

Plenty of rumors and internet lore going around this week and time of year. Social media makes it so EASY to share with the click of a button we can forward emails, share stories at Facebook, re-blog a post that we like and find interesting. But all too often it seems people are doing just that without checking or verifying the source and facts.

After the horrific shootings last Friday in Connecticut a rumor quickly surfaced at Facebook with a picture of Morgan Freeman and statement “you want to know why”? It spread like wildfire, people loved the message and hit share without thinking. Problem was Morgan Freeman never made that statement and it took a day before people were telling those who were sharing that it was false. Eventually a spokes person for Morgan Freeman made a public statement in his behalf verifying the Facebook post was a rumor. Many people who had posted it on their Facebook page deleted it after finding out it was false. Other’s didn’t, they liked the message -  and false or not kept it on their page.

As we get closer to Christmas the email rumor mill starts again. This time an email which starts,  “Apparently the White House referred to Christmas Trees as “Holiday Trees” for the first time this year,” which prompted CBS presenter, Ben Stein, to present this piece. Followed was a long message from Ben Stein and his thoughts on Christmas. This particular rumor has been going around since 2009 and it’s alive and well this holiday season. Today I have seen the email copied and pasted on several blogs. Many people left comments saying it was false with a link to SNOPES. Some of the bloggers took down the post many didn’t, they wanted to believe that it was true is the only reason I can think of for keeping it.

One of the first things we were taught as children was to tell the truth. When we started school we were taught not to spread rumors, how hurtful and damaging they could be. By middle school we were taught about plagiarism and how to cite our sources when writing papers. That continued through high school, college and beyond. It’s always big news when a journalist gets caught plagiarizing.

What is it about social media that makes seemingly intelligent people cast aside all they have learned and practiced in life regarding honesty and think nothing about spreading rumors or fact checking? Or when confronted will respond, “I don’t care who said it”  or “I don’t have time to check facts.”

Truth matters and we have a responsibility to check facts to the best of our ability before hitting the share/forward button.

Maybe it’s me, but I just don’t get the Pinterest obsession. Of course I have an account and gave it a try but how people waste so much time on this I don’t understand. I see a lot of things pinned that people will never own or places they will never visit. I see a lot of yummy looking food most of which is horribly unhealthy unless you follow a specific board that promotes healthier foods. I haven’t logged in for months and nothing has changed, half my feed was taken over by a pinner I don’t know but am friends with that has 67 boards. She must sit at her computer all day and do nothing else but pin.

Remember the cartoon that was popular back in the chat room days that showed an old fat guy at his computer chatting with a hot young blonde chick? In reality neither were hot nor young.  That’s my take on Pinterest.

Quick Update

Have had major computer problems, thankfully I have an iPad which took much of the stress away from a non functioning laptop and gave me time to shop for a new one. Decided on a HP Pavillion m7-1015dx. I picked up my new laptop today with the data recovery successful (on old computer to new) though damned if I know how to get it all back to where it belongs on this one.

Bear with me as I sort out this mess.
